Mosquito control effort to begin soon

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Hang on of Health will soon begin its seasonal efforts to direction mosquitoes that carry the West Nile Virus and other diseases.

First-time callers reporting problems in an size not inspected in past years will receive a visit to raiment and test mosquitoes.

Residents are encouraged to do their part by emptying flower pots and buckets, cleaning gutters, replacing splash in bird baths, maintaining clean swimming pools, and by removing tires and other station water from their property.

Garden tour grows to include Lake Loveland homes

The Garden Trip for Loveland Youth Gardeners usually attracts about 400 people, Cantley said.

Most of the gardens featured in the trip are landscaped by residents who aren’t professionals.

“We try to stick with homeowners who have landscaped themselves,” Cantley said. “We fancy people to see that you too can have a garden like this.”

The gardens feature first-wise and low maintenance flower, vegetable and fruit gardens and wildlife habitats, according to the Loveland Immaturity Gardeners Web site.

One master gardener will also be stationed at each garden to surrejoinder questions people about gardening, identifying foliage and more, Cantley said.

This is the first values bright and early gardens on Lake Loveland will be featured in the tour.

“We’re reasoning that people have always been curious about the homes around Lake Loveland,” Cantley said. “We try to pick a neighborhood so people don’t have to push all over town.”

In previous years, gardens that have been displayed have been the areas around Ellis Ranch and downtown Loveland.

Those who deal with the event also will be offered a boat ride from homeowners on Lake Loveland. The suggested bequest for the ride is $5.

The event also includes a Sale of Art for the Garden by county and regional artists.
Local artists have designed six birdbaths to be auctioned in the reticent auction. The birdbaths will be on display at Gallery East next month.

New this year, along with the craft ride, is a $10 Lakeside Luncheon. Space for the luncheon is narrow is to 150 guests and advanced reservations are recommended.

“It’s utilized for our garden program for the at-risk and special-needs children,” Cantley. “We have a garden out at the Inebriated Plains Environmental Center, and our mission is to cultivate skills, stewardship and services in inexperienced people through sustainable gardening and healthy living practices.”

This is the Loveland Lass Gardeners 15th season. Throughout the years, the student gardeners have donated more than 4,500 pounds of show to the low income residents through the House of Neighborly Service.

Tickets will be handy June 1-25 at: Rowe’s Flowers and Gifts, Loveland Garden Center, Gateway Garden Center, Earle’s Flowers and Rabbit Protection Farm. Tickets are also available at Fort Collins: including Fort Collins Nursery, Bath Garden Center & Nursery, Fossil Bay Nursery, and Gulley Greenhouse.
